“Another Year of Entrance Exams Without Women” Recording Release
Sahar Education stands solidly on the side of Afghan women and activists calling for the official codification of Gender Apartheid into international law. During yesterday’s virtual discussion between internationally best-selling author and board member, Nadia Hashimi and program manager, Shogofa Amini, the message is clear- Afghan women need agency over the narrative being pushed.
Nadia Hashimi asserted during the discussion that the current state of Afghanistan is worse than the first iteration of the Taliban because “Right now what is happening to Afghan women and girls is happening with the world’s full awareness and that awareness means that we are condoning it too. For example, right now the United Nations have special envoys that are meeting with the Taliban for this 3rd round of talks. And, per the request of the Taliban, there will be no women involved in this meeting and women’s rights will not be discussed.”
She continues, “The public has been sold a narrative that misogyny and oppression are somehow Afghan values and that women’s empowerment and a desire for education is a foreign concept that was introduced into the country…that’s just not true but it was a very easy sell.”
