Reflections and Resolve: Three Years After the Taliban Takeover
Dear Supporters and friends,
As we mark the third year since the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan, we reflect on the profound changes that have shaped the lives of millions, especially the women and girls of Afghanistan. This anniversary is a somber reminder of the hardships our sisters face under a regime that seeks to silence their voices and dim their futures.
But it is also a reminder of our collective strength, our shared resolve, and the work that continues despite the barriers placed before us. Since the tragic events of August 2021, Sahar Education has remained committed to our mission of empowering Afghan girls through education, even when the paths we once took have become obscured.
The situation on the ground is difficult. The Taliban’s restrictions on women’s rights—particularly access to education—are a tragedy and an injustice. Many girls who once walked freely into classrooms are now forced to stay home, their dreams deferred by oppression.
Yet, we are not defeated. With your unwavering support, we have adapted our programs to meet these new challenges, providing Afghan girls with innovative, discreet ways of continuing education that are as safe and supportive as possible under the circumstances. Our partnerships with local leaders and educators remain strong, as does our commitment to amplifying the voices of Afghan women who refuse to be silenced.
Your contributions have ensured that Sahar remains a beacon of hope in these dark times. You are helping us reach young women through online platforms, underground schools, and safe spaces where they can dream, learn, and believe in a future of opportunity.
This work would not be possible without you. You have shown us, time and again, that even when the world feels uncertain, our community of supporters stands strong. You are the reason we can continue to provide education, advocacy, and hope to Afghan girls. Together, we are keeping the spirit of education alive in Afghanistan.
As we reflect on these past three years, we also look forward—to a time when every Afghan girl can walk freely into a school, hold a book in her hands, and believe that her future is hers to shape. Until that day, we will continue our work, driven by the strength of the girls we serve and the generosity of supporters like you.
Thank you for standing with us, believing in education, and helping us keep hope alive in Afghanistan.
With gratitude and warm regards,
